Acupuncture and Laser Acupuncture

The primary goal of Acupuncture is to apply the Laws of Nature and to restore balance in the body.

In a healthy body, energy or Qi (pronounced 'chee') flows harmoniously.

Any disturbance to its flow leads to discomfort or illness. Acupuncture acts to restore the normal flow of Qi through the body.

Using either an acupuncture needle or a laser beam the practitioner stimulates traditional acupuncture points in the body.  This helps to release blocks along the meridians as well as decrease inflammation or reactions.

It may also be used to introduce a specific remedy or colour to an organ or system.  Laser acupuncture can be used on people of any age including infants.

Like blood, lymph or nerves, Qi flows in a vessel system, called Acupuncture meridians or channels.

The channels begin at the ends of the fingers and toes, and travel up the limbs to the torso. In the torso they pass through the various organs and then continue up to the head.

We give each channel the name of one of the organs it passes through, such as the lungs, spleen, liver or kidney channel. The Acupuncture points are like 'windows' into these channels, in order to regulate the flow.

Acupuncture points lie on specific areas along each meridian. Each point has a name and caries 3 functions.

For Example Spleen 6 - SANYINJIAO

Physical function:  strengthen the Spleen, resolves Dampness, regulates the Uterus and stops pain.

Energetic function:  promotes smooth flow of Liver-Qi, and tonifies the Kidneys.

Spiritual function: strong calming effect on the mind, often used for insomnia.

Is Acupuncture effective?

As early as 1980, the World Health Organization (WHO) published a list of 40 conditions that western, scientific studies have shown are effectively treated with Acupuncture.

Does it hurt?

We use an extremely gentle technique, where the needles are tapped quickly into the skin, with no discomfort. As the needle connects with your body's Qi, a tingling or dull sensation may be felt.

Where to start?

  • The practitioner will take a detailed Health History

  • Then they will feel for pulses in both wrists and inspect the tongue.

  • From here we determine which points and or vessels to use and whether we are dealing with an excess or deficiency of Qi, or a direct blockage.
